- The Passing of a Unique GenerationWaugh has given the modern reader a true as possible glimpse into the English aristocracy of the 20' and 30's. He admits that the novel was semi-auto-biographical, as he writes in 1959:

Waugh reissued it in 1959 "with many small additions and some substantial cuts", so that all later UK editions, including Penguin and Everyman's Library, used the new revised version.
