Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Join superheroes Batman and Robin in fifteen action-packed episodes of one of the most thrilling adventure serials of yesteryear. The Dynamic Duo care

Amazon.com:
There's no Batmobile, and Robert Lowery looks a bit, ahem, well-fed as the Caped Crusader, but Columbia Pictures' 1949 black-and-white serial Batman and Robin is up to its cape and cowl in cliffhangers, crime capers, and good old-fashioned rock-em-sock-em action. Directed at a breakneck pace by serial vet Spencer Gordon Bennett, the Complete 1949 Movie Serial Collection's 15 episodes pits Lowery's Batman and Johnny Duncan as the Boy Wonder against arch-villain The Wizard, who has designs on a remote-control device that doubles as a death ray. Jane Adams's Vicki Vale is on hand to fall into peril at least once per episode, while Ed Wood regular Lyle Talbot looks on sternly as Commissioner Gordon. Viewers weaned on Tim Burton's dark, sleek interpretation of the Batman mythos will undoubtedly groan over the creaky dialogue and performances (creator Bob Kane was no fan, either), but fans with designs on absorbing every bit of Bat-trivia possible will probably get a kick out of this well-intentioned attempt at bringing the Dark Knight's adventures to screen. The episodes are divided onto two DVDs, which offer no extras. --Paul Gaita

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - enjoyable
I so enjoyed watching this video. I was born in 1949 and did not realise that the Batman movie was made in that year. I work at a Walmart store, and a few months ago I met the man who played Robin in this series. He was shopping for the video. We did not have it,and I looked it up online for him. I found that he could purchase it there. I kept thinking about it, and a month ago, I decided that I had to purchase it, since it was made the year I was born. I was so glad to see I could get it ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Batman
Batman and Robin the complete 1949 serial collection is wonderful. It takes you back to the matinees at our local Hoyts in Australia. i have episode 8 of the original 16 mm print. The transfer quality to DVD is magic! It does not stand up to to much scrutiny but what the heck it is great fun When a modern! car goes over a cliff it is an old clapped out one that lands. I recommend this to anyone !

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - No Rubber Muscles Here.
The worst things are about this serial are Batman and Robin's masks, which are indeed atrocious. My experience watching it, however, was that by the end of the 2nd chapter I had gotten used to them, as well as Robert Lowry's gut, and they no longer distracted me from enjoying this better-than-average-late-period Columbia serial.

Overall, Robert Lowry and Johnny Duncan make pretty good heroes. Lowry has a good voice, and is handsome when he is Bruce Wayne, and is convincing when he gets ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - For Old Comic Book Fans
I was born in the 70s, so I can't say that this brings back any memories for me. However, I do typically love tv/movie interpretations of DC Comics heroes and villains and this is no exception. For those who have actually read old Batman comics, like myself, this serial is just about perfect. It's hard to tell in black and white, but if that "Batmobile" is red then it is a perfect copy of the old comics' version of Batman's original transport. The Wizard is an awesome villain, that should have been ... Read More
