Amazon.com: Thanks to the ambitious vision of director Tim Burton, the blockbuster hit of 1989 delivers the goods despite an occasionally spotty script, giving the caped crusader a thorough overhaul in keeping with the crime fighter's evolution in DC Comics. Michael Keaton strikes just the right mood as the brooding "Dark Knight" of Gotham City; Kim Basinger plays Gotham's intrepid reporter Vicki Vale; and Jack Nicholson goes wild as the maniacal and scene-stealing Joker, who plots a takeover of the city with his lethal Smilex gas. Triumphant Oscar-winning production design by the late Anton Furst turns Batman into a visual feast, and Burton brilliantly establishes a darkly mythic approach to Batman's legacy. Danny Elfman's now-classic score propels the action with bold, muscular verve. --Jeff Shannon Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - The first is the greatest. The 1989 Batman film is probably the best we'll ever see of The Dark Knight in a major motion picture. At the time of this writing there has been two Batman films directed by Christopher Nolan, I won't waste time comparing Burton to Nolan but I will certain defend this first outing with Michael Keaton wearing the cape and cowl. Batman: I'm Batman. 1989 was the year when Tim Burton and Warner Bros. introduced the world to the dark knight. Unlike many action and superhero movies that have become dated and whose only main interest lies in nostalgia, time has done nothing but burnish the dark beauty of Burton's dazzling portrait of the creature of the night, looming over Gotham ... Read More Rating: - Absolutely THE Best Batman MovieI can't imagine how this movie could get any better. Jack Nicholson is perfect as the joker. The story and characters are great. And the Batmobile looks like a batmobile, not a Hummer. A Hummer is NOT a batmobile. I love every like the Joker says. "Oh Theyre'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!",he sings as he electocutes a rival with a rigged joy buzzer! Just campy enough, just dark enough, perfect!
