The First Wave heroes are jerks, but they have the best gifts: flight, super strength, telepathy, genius, fire. The Third Wavers are stuck with the leftovers: the ability to instantly make someone sober, the power to smell the past, the grace to carry a tray and never drop its contents, the power to produce high-powered excrement blasts, absolute control. over elevators. Bar owner Keepsie Branson is a Third Waver with a power that prevents anything in her possession from being stolen. Keepsie and her friends just aren't powerful enough to make a difference. at least that's what they've always been told. But when the villain Doodad slips Keepsie a mysterious metal sphere, the Third Wavers become caught in the middle of a battle between the egotistical heroes and the manipulative villains. As Seventh City begins to melt down, it's hard to tell the good guys from the bad, and even harder to tell who may become the true heroes. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - I should be WritingIf your looky ing at this little heard of book, then you have probobly heard of Mur Lafferty through her podcast "I Should be Writing". After listening to Mur talk about her progress on this book for the last couple years I must say I wasent disapointed. The action in this book starts at about page 3 and dosent really let up until page till page 245. It has a solid story line and is just plain fun. On the negative side it is obvious at times that this is Mur's first novel. But all in all a fun ... Read More Rating: - Hmmm...Possibly the worst book I have ever read. A complete waste of effort. If there was a message it missed me... Rating: - Must Readthe most creative, funny, down to earth super hero story. i couldn't put it down. Rating: - A Deeper Meaning Beneath it AllWhat I liked most about this book is that the characters were real and flawed. Keepsie and her pals are placed in a precarious position and we have to watch them work themselves out of it all the while wondering what we would do in the same situation. Give in to evil or let good prevail? It's a decision we've all been faced with in some form or another. Mur's effective prose helps move the story along at a nice pace, never leaving you bored but rather making you want to find out what happens ... (I really slacked on listening to my podcasts.) I looked her name up on a whim knowing that independent authors sometimes publish their work on Kindle. I'm really happy for her. I love stories with colorful characters and twists on themes and this one delivers. I'm not a big super hero fan but I really do enjoy this story. Hopefully the publishers will pick up her ...
